At the Gala!
Daniel Ingram posted on his Facebook that the chords for guitar during Rainbow Dash's part were G#m F# B C#m x 3, C#m D#m E F# B. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! I assumed, from the nature of that part of the song, that the guitar was playing power chords. But Ingram pointed me in the right direction. Thanks so much for the help, Lemniscate!
ReplyDeleteWell, when I did my rock cover of At the Gala, I kept the GP file if you want to see it. I think I got the chords right.

Thanks! That looks like it will be really helpful. I'll give it a closer look tomorrow. I appreciate you sharing your musical talent.
ReplyDeleteA quick update: I'm still working on a new version of this song thanks to the input from the rock cover (in the comment above) and a few other bronies. I hope to post it within the next day or two.
ReplyDeleteI reworked a bunch of the chords today. Thanks to the brony who submitted the rock cover and to all the others who sent me messages.
ReplyDeleteThis is still a work in progress.
The Rarity part sounded a bit odd, so I tried some different chords. Here's what I got.
ReplyDeleteE A
At the Gala, all the royals
B A
They will meet fair Rarity
E A B A
They will see I'm just as regal at the Gala! (at the Gala)
E A
I will find him, my Prince Charming,
B A
and how gallant he will be,
C#m D#m E F B
he will treat me like a lady, tonight at the Gala!
Try them out, see if they work.
(Also, try playing with a capo on the second fret. Much easier!)
I may be wrong, but looking at the last line in rarity's verse: Should that F be an F#?
ReplyDeleteAlso love the site!
You're right, it should be an F#. Thanks for the help!
ReplyDeleteI may be wrong (again), but should Pinkie Pie's Fs be F#s?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking only the first F should be an F#, though now I'm not sure at all.
ReplyDeleteJepp, thanks a bunch for your thoughts about this. I think you're correct that the first F should be an F# and the second should be natural.
ReplyDeleteWhen I looked at it again, I also realized that I think there should be another F# on the word "party".
Thanks again!
I just realized I somehow missed DeadManSleeping's comment, and I never responded to it. Sorry about that! The chords he suggested sound quite nice, and I would recommend that people try them out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts!
Ehh, I didn't have a great feeling about the alternation between the B and F# chords during the choral parts, but I've figured it out! In between the B and F# chords, there should be an E, creating a 1 4 5 progression. That variation sounds better on a Gibson SG with the gain turned up, at any rate.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a cool-sounding variation on the ending would be C# D# F F# / F# G# C# Then shred the G# for a bar before hitting the C# twice for the last "At The Gala!". I'm a punk guitarist, so this may only sound good to me, but hey, You Gotta Share.
ReplyDeleteHey vorpalbob,
ReplyDeleteSorry it took me so long to respond to you. I've been crazy busy the past few days. The E chord sounds good in the choral parts. Where in the line do you think the chord changes should be happening?
Your punk variation is also a lot of fun. I recommend that people try it out. Thanks for sharing it, and thanks for your comments!
The timing of the B/E/F# progression in the choral parts seems to be, with eighth notes, B x8, E x4, F# x4. I'm hosting a brony jam session at my house in a few days, we might record this alternate version and put it on youtube. EQD, here we come!
