Winter Wrap Up

Notes: Play this song with a capo on the first fret.

[Verse 1]
Am                     G
Three months of winter coolness
C           F
And awesome holidays
Am                      G
We've kept our hoofsies warm at home
C                     F
Time off from work to play
C                            F
But the food we've stored is runnin' out
G
And we can't grow in this cold
C                 F
And even though I love my boots
G
This fashion's getting old

[Verse 2]
C                    F
The time has come to welcome spring
G
And all things warm and green
C                     F
But it's also time to say goodbye
G
Its winter we must clean
C         F                  G
How can I help? I'm new, you see
G
What does everypony do?
C        F              G
How do I fit in without magic?
G
I haven't got a clue.

[Chorus 1]
C               F
Winter Wrap Up, Winter Wrap Up
G
Let's finish our holiday cheer
C               F
Winter Wrap Up, Winter Wrap Up
G
'cause tomorrow spring is here
G               F         C
'cause tomorrow spring is here

[Verse 3]
C                 F
Bringing home the southern birds
G
A pegasus's job begins
C                    F
And clearing all the gloomy skies
G
To let the sunshine in
C           F
We move the clouds
G
And we melt the white snow
C                  F
When the sun comes up, its warmth
G
And beauty will glow

[Chorus 2]
C               F
Winter Wrap Up, Winter Wrap Up
G
Let's finish our holiday cheer
C               F
Winter Wrap Up, Winter Wrap Up
G
'cause tomorrow spring is here
C               F
Winter Wrap Up, Winter Wrap Up
G
'cause tomorrow spring is here
G               F         C
'cause tomorrow spring is here

[Verse 4]
C               F
Little critters hibernate
G
Under the snow and ice
C                    F
We wake up all their sleepy heads
G
So quietly and nice
C            F
We help them gather up their food
G
Fix their homes below
C          F
We welcome back the southern birds
G
So their families can grow

[Repeat Chorus 2]

[Verse 5]
Am      G                 Em
No easy task to clear the ground
          F
Plant our tiny seeds
Am          G           Em
With proper care and sunshine
     F
Everyone it feeds
Em               F
Apples, carrots, celery stalks
Am               G
Colorful flowers too
Em              F
We must work so very hard
G
It's just so much to do

[Repeat Chorus 2]

[Verse 6]
C          F                  G
Now that I know what they all do
G
I have to find my place
C             F         G
And help with all of my heart
G
Tough task ahead I face
C          F             G
How will I do without my magic
G
Help the earth pony way
C         F           G
I want to belong so I must
G
Do my best today
G
Do my best today

  2. I have two corrections for the lyrics in the first verse: I believe the actual words used are "winter coolness" and "loved my boots". Here are the lyrics to the first verse as I've been singing them:

Three months of winter coolness, and awesome holidays
We've kept our hoofsies warm at home, time off from work to play
But the food we've stored is runnin' out, and we can't grow in this cold
And even though I loved my boots, this fashion's getting old

  3. Weird. I do it by tuning the guitar to half step down and for the song:

    Intro:
    D Em F#m G
    Bm A F#m G
    F#m G Bm A
    F#m G A

    Verse 1:
Finger picking. Bass note changes. Main chord is D
    D Em F#m G
    Bm A F#m G x3
    A

    Chorus:
    D G A x2
    A

    Verse:
    D Em F#m G
    Bm A F#m G x3
    A

    Chorus:
    D G A x3
    A

    Verse:
    D Em F#m G
    Bm A F#m G x3
    A

    Chorus:
    (1 2 Clap 4 1 2 clap 4 1 2 clap 4 1 clop clop 4)

    Bridge: (Apple Jack!)
    Bm A F#m G
    Bm A F#m G
    F#m G Bm A
    F#m G A

    Chorus:
    D G A x3
    A

    Twilight:

    D Em F#m G
    Bm A F#m G x 3
    Bm A

    Chorus:
    D G A x3
    A

    Outro:

    D Em F#m G
    Bm A D

Well that's how I usually do it. I tried this way also, and this seemed to work also!

  6. Hey, I found these tabs for the song. I didn't write them, but I don't know if you want to add them for the tabs section anyway.

    Cheers.

  7. Oops! I should really post the link.

  8. @Daylight Thanks for the link! I'll post a link in the next news post. I would be happy to also give it its own page on the site, but I would want to get permission from the author first.

  9. Hmm. I downloaded NGRFORCE's midi for his piano cover of this song, and the background chords were far different. I played them both on my keyboard. This one just sounds dischordant, while NGR's sound like they actually fit. Something to look into.

If this double posts, sorry, my computer is being stupid.

  10. Thanks for the comment! Is it possible that the issue is the chords above are written for a guitar with a capo on the first fret? The capo basically knocks all the chords up half a step.

So, on a piano, you would play a Bbm instead of Am, Ab instead of G, Db instead of C, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well, the "capo" explains most of the verses and the chorus, but the intro is still fairly different. The one I'm playing is as follows (on piano):

    C# G# Fm F# x2
    C# G# Fm G#
    C# G# F# G#

If I bump that all down half a step for the capo, that becomes:

    C G Em F x2
    C G Em G
    C G F G

I can't confirm nor deny the validity of these, other than the fact that they are pleasing to my ears, and that piano brony is pretty talented. These could also be representing two completely different parts, so maybe I'm totally off. I recommend you download the midi and look at the tracks for verification.

Um, but, you know, whatever you want to do is fine...

  12. Thanks for replying, Sidnoea! I took a look at the music from NGRFORCE, and I think I found the source of the difference. It sounds like NGRFORCE focused on the piano parts and then constructed the music around that. The chords above, however, are based on the guitar line. I think we came at it from slightly different perspectives, which is why they turned out differently.

So, if anybody is reading this and playing the piano, try the chords that Sidnoea suggested! They sound great!

I'll also rewrite the note at the top of this page about the capo. It is not very clear as it stands now.

Thanks for all your thoughts and for helping us improve the site!

  13. Applejack's verse is a little off. Try this:

    Am......G.................Em
No easy task to clear the ground
    ..........Em...F
    Plant our tiny seeds
    Am............G..........Em
    With proper care and sunshine
    .....F
    Everyone it feeds
    Em...............F
    Apples, carrots, celery stalks,
    Am................G
    Colorful flowers, too.
    Em...............F
We must work so very hard,
    G
It's just so much to do.

  16. From what I've heard, line 3 of verse 4 needs two more letters. From 'the' to 'their'.

  20. I think the ending chords are closer to Am-G-C, just to my ear.

  21. @Mitch

Sounds good. I'll change it now. Thanks for the help!

  22. I've found that it also works on capo four, which is a much easier key for my mid-to-low range voice. I'm not totally certain this is correct, so you may want to double-check me on this. Excellent chords, by the way!

  23. @theamethystriddle

Thanks for your comment; that is a good tip. In my opinion, you can put the capo wherever you want. It changes the key of the song, but that doesn't matter all too much. The important thing is that it works for your voice.

    Thanks for your comment!

  24. Thanks for posting this! I am SO taking this to my open mic night, with some minor tweaking. (Especially in a two or three months, once it's officially time to sing the Winter Wrap-Up!)

Since I'm slapping a chord sheet in front of a guitar player to sight-read, I'm dumbing down the song to a straight Am-G-C-F on the verses, and C-F-G on the chorus.
It might not be exactly accurate to the cartoon version, but it's something I can run with for a player unfamiliar with the song.
(I sing and play fiddle, which are good, but I need to put up something my guitar player can play with zero rehearsal.)

  25. @InfintySquared

Seems like a good idea to me. Good luck with the open mic night. I bet it'll sound awesome!

  26. What type of strumming do you need to use for this song ?

  27. I believe there's an Am in Applejack's part:
    C...............................F
But the food we've stored is runnin' out
    Am.........................G
And we can't grow in this cold

    1. Good question. It's actually in D flat. The chords above are a bit deceptive because the capo knocks it up a half step.

    3. Yeah, found that out after doing a bit more nosing around and saw the actual sheet music and then the number of flats. Now i just have to correlate the sheet music to the guitar on the IPad. but I also need to figure out if its minor or major. I got my old acoustic guitar out, so i'm practicing on it, to see if it helps. Never really took lessons on how to play it. Well, I mean, I had like 3 or 4 lessons before we couldn't pay for it anymore. :( and i accidentally put this as a new post, so I deleted it. >_>;
